Dr. Sarah Barrett

Dr. Barrett is a native of Pulaski County and completed her bachelor's in Biology ('99) and DVM ('05) at Virginia Tech.  She practiced emergency medicine and critical care, followed by small animal day practice in Houston and Central Texas before returning to Virginia Tech for a clinical pathology residency.  She was board-certified in 2014 and completed a PhD in Immunology in 2015.  Dr. Barrett spent the next 5 years as a clinical assistant professor with a joint appointment at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, before joining Zoetis as the Director of Digital Cytopathology in Global Diagnostics.  Following the successful launch and growth of a global point-of-care digital cytology service, Dr. Barrett is delighted to return her focus back home, serving Southwest Virginia's veterinary community through Vinton Veterinary Hospital's Specialty Services Center.  She is particularly interested in hematopathology, autoimmune disease/immune dysregulation, and wellness within veterinary care teams.  When not at the microscope, she spends time with her family, wrangles many animals (chickens, dogs, cats, fish, and a beautiful Chilean Rose tarantula, and works her lavender farm.
