Dr. Raja Ramanathan was raised in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. He completed undergraduate studies in Biomedical Engineering at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA and worked at a research and development site for AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals for several years. He returned to school and fulfilled his childhood dream by earning his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Virginia Tech in 2012. While attending veterinary school he pursued interests in tissue regeneration and won a biotechnology research scholarship.
After graduating veterinary school, he spent three years practicing small animal medicine and surgery in the west around Albuquerque, New Mexico and volunteering to work with Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary. He spent the next few years in the thrilling world of emergency medicine and general practice in the Greensboro, NC area before joining Vinton Veterinary Hospital. His interests include surgery, internal medicine, and the human-animal bond.
He is married to Danielle, a physician, and their family includes 2 children, 4 dogs and 3 cats most of whom have made both cross country moves. They are excited to begin working in Roanoke. He can be found struggling to climb Dragons Tooth or taking blurry pet and child photos in his time away from work.
